The very small beans that weigh just about the half of usual cacao beans, account for the fruity & flowery aroma of the Original Beans Beni Wild Harvest 66% chocolate. The Beniano, that grows endemically in the Bolivian Amazonas, was named after the river where it thrives. As it is considered an own variety, it initiated the end of the long out-dated trichotomy of Forastero, Trinitario and Criollo. The small Beniano beans with amazing flavours were rediscovered in 2000. Growing on islands rising out of the flooded plains in the Amazonas, the wild Beniano cacao can only be reached by boat and is hand-picked by indigenous collectors. Because of their small size, they do not fit the industry norms, but they are exceptionally tasty – comparable to wild strawberries.
